With Hackintosh, choosing a computer has always started with the graphics card: macOS only accelerates GPUs it supports natively, and many current cards are left out. With Reims vGPU, the VM depends less on that list.

Reims vGPU presents macOS with a paravirtualized graphics device that the system itself recognizes.

Graphics operations run on the host computer through Vulkan, an open graphics interface provided by drivers from several vendors.

As a result, the VM depends less on native macOS support for the graphics card installed in the computer.

These families show the intended reach; they are not certification badges or a list of tested models. Vulkan 1.2 is the technical foundation, not a guarantee that it will work: system, virtualization and driver requirements still apply.

From the Manage VMs menu, VM 14 is started with 16 GB of memory and 16 processors. The VM window opens, the OpenCore picker appears and macOS Tahoe boots to the desktop, where About This Mac shows the Mac Pro, the paravirtualized graphics device and macOS Tahoe 26.6.2.

OSX-REIMS supports the VM for as long as you use it on your computer. These are the functions available in version 0.3.0.
The interface is a terminal menu, opened from the OSX-REIMS shortcut in the Ubuntu applications menu. Every action is also available as a command.

A ready environment on Ubuntu.
- Guided setup: system packages, GPU and KVM access, Rust and a Reims vGPU build.
- Choice of Reims vGPU version: the tested one, recommended, or the latest one.
- The administrator password is only requested by the steps that need it.

A new VM in a few questions.
- Installer from a Recovery downloaded from Apple or from a local installer image.
- Choice of macOS version and disk size; the disk only uses space as it fills up.
- Recovery kept in a cache and reused for later VMs.
- A unique identity generated for each VM.
- Import of the QCOW2 disk of a macOS already installed in another VM, with a new identity.

Run
Resources set at every start.
- Memory and processors chosen at startup.
- On the first start, the macOS installer is attached automatically.
- Each VM’s state in the menu: ready to install, installed or running, with uptime.

Control over existing VMs.
- Shut down, restart, force power off or terminate a VM’s process.
- Delete one VM or all of them.
- A log history of every action, with its result.

- Cleanup of the downloaded installer cache.

- System
- Ubuntu Desktop 26.04 LTS, 64-bit (x86_64).
- Virtualization
- Hardware virtualization (Intel VT-x or AMD-V) enabled in the BIOS/UEFI, with KVM.
- GPU
- A GPU with Vulkan 1.2 or later support and a compatible driver installed on Ubuntu.
- Storage
- At least 12 GB free for the environment (Reims vGPU and Rust), plus space for your VMs: each macOS VM uses tens of GB.
- Internet
- An internet connection to prepare the environment and download Recovery from Apple.
Each VM’s memory and processors are chosen at startup. The values suggested by the menu are not minimum computer requirements.

Frequently asked questions
What is OSX-REIMS?
A solution for creating and managing macOS virtual machines on Ubuntu. It prepares the environment, comes with an integrated EFI and uses Reims vGPU as its virtual GPU foundation, with terminal menus to create, start, shut down, delete and maintain VMs.
Do I need to understand Hackintosh?
No. You don’t need prior knowledge of Hackintosh, EFI, OpenCore, Kexts or ACPI to get started.
Your computer does need to meet the requirements, and you need to follow the installation and Ubuntu setup instructions.
Is the EFI already included?
Yes. The EFI is part of OSX-REIMS, follows Universo Hackintosh standards and has more than 400 customizations. Every VM you create gets its own copy, with a unique identity.
Can I use a macOS VM I already have?
Yes, if its disk is in QCOW2 format, like the disk of an OSX-PROXMOX VM. With the Import VM disk option, OSX-REIMS copies the disk into a new VM with its own boot disk and identity; the original file is not changed.
Since the identity is new, Apple services may ask you to sign in again. Whether it works depends on the macOS installed on the disk.
Which operating system does my computer need?
Ubuntu Desktop 26.04 LTS, 64-bit (x86_64), with hardware virtualization enabled and KVM, a GPU and driver with Vulkan support, an internet connection, and space for the environment and the VMs.
Does my GPU need native macOS support?
That is no longer the starting point. Reims vGPU presents a virtual GPU to macOS and runs graphics operations through Vulkan on Ubuntu, which reduces dependence on native macOS support for the physical GPU.
The GPU needs Vulkan 1.2 or later support and a compatible driver on Ubuntu.
Does Vulkan 1.2 guarantee it works on any GPU?
No. Vulkan 1.2 is the technical foundation, not a guarantee. Whether it works also depends on the driver, the GPU model, virtualization and the rest of the system.
Intel integrated graphics, Intel Arc, NVIDIA GeForce/RTX and AMD Radeon are families considered by the architecture, with no certification of specific models.
Which macOS versions appear in the demos?
The screenshots show macOS Ventura 13.7.8, Sonoma 14.8.9, Sequoia 15.8 and Tahoe 26.6.2 running. One of the Tahoe videos shows the VM being created and the Recovery steps, without the full installation.
When creating VMs, OSX-REIMS offers Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia and Tahoe. Offering a version does not mean guaranteed compatibility.

What do members receive?
The OSX-REIMS .deb installation package for Ubuntu and access to the #osx-reims channel on Discord, which is where the package is obtained.

Once I am a member, how do I get into Discord?
Just accept our invitation to join our Discord server (Discord invite (opens in a new tab)).
After joining, remember to connect your Discord profile to the YouTube account you used to become a member of the channel: Discord then recognizes you as a member and assigns the member role automatically, which unlocks access to the rooms.
Is the project in alpha?
Yes. OSX-REIMS is at version 0.3.0, in alpha, and is provided without any warranty. Reims vGPU also describes itself as alpha. Functions and behavior may change between versions.
